About Cults Otters Swimming Club

Who are Cults Otters ASC?

  • Cults Otters are the local amateur swimming club for the Culter, Milltimber, Bieldside and Cults area, based at Cults Academy Pool catering for in excess of 500 local swimmers made up of learn to swim, competitive and keep fit swimmers aged from 4 years to 18 years.

  • Cults Otters is more than 40 years old and has a sound competitive history. We have had two swimmers represent Scotland in the Commonwealth Games, Beverley Robertson in the 100m and 200m breaststroke in Kuala Lumpur in 1998 and Robbie Renwick in 200m and 400m Freestyle in Melbourne in 2006. Robbie Renwick is currently training with the aim of being selected for the Olympic Games in Beijing in 2008.

  • The club provides Learn to swim lessons for children from four years of age; competitive training for children from 7 years to 13 years; and keep fit swimming for teenagers from 12 years.

  • Our senior competitive swimmers move into the City of Aberdeen Swim Team (COAST) a composite club made up of swimmers from six Aberdeen clubs (Cults Otters ASC, Aberdeen Dolphins ASC, Bridge of Don ASC, Dyce ASC, Bucksburn ASC and Bon Accord Thistle ASC) COAST is run by professional swimming coaches employed by Aberdeen City Council and train in various pools in Aberdeen.

  • Older swimmers who do not wish to train competitively with COAST join Otters Elite squad where the emphasis is on keeping fit and socialising.

  • Swimmers who do not wish to train competitively with Cults Otters can feed into other Aberdeen City Council initiatives such as water polo or diving at Bon Accord baths and underwater hockey at Tullos pool.

  • The club is affiliated to the Scottish Amateur Swimming Association (SASA), is non profit making and has community amateur sports club status with the Inland Revenue.

  • The club is run by a mixture of volunteers who are mainly parents of the swimmers and some semi-professional coaches and self-employed swimming teachers. There is an entirely voluntary organising committee which oversees the activities of the club. The club has a constitution overseen by SASA.

  • All teachers and coaches are qualified through the Amateur Swimming Association training schemes, and all either have or are working towards their professional licence.

  • The main pool used by Cults Otters ASC is at Cults Academy, the Learn to Swim section also uses Camphill Pool in Milltimber; and the competitive section uses Tullos pool, and the Regional pool at Robert Gordon University in Garthdee.
